Most nights the puck line is 1.5 and the total is 5.5 or 6.5, so the whole bet lives inside one goal. Pick a team to see who scores early, who gives leads back in the third, who is in net tonight, and how it has done against the closing puck line and total.
At the close
Puck line and total
Every game graded at the closing line, the number a bet settles on. Moneyline, puck line and over-under records split home and road, favorite and underdog, over the last 5, 10 and 15.
Period by period
Goals by period
Goals don’t arrive evenly. Some clubs bury teams in the first ten minutes. Others sit on a lead and get run over in the third. Every game is split by period, with overtime and empty-netters flagged.
In the crease
Goalies and skaters
A .915 on the season can hide a goalie who has leaked all month. Every start is logged with saves and goals saved above expected, and every skater has a heatmap with the prop line he clears most.

PROCESS VS RESULTS
Chance share measures the quality of looks a team creates against what it allows at 5-on-5. Goal share is what reached the scoreboard. Teams above the line are getting results ahead of their play; teams below are owed some. The gap tends to close, and prices are often a step behind it.

How NHL Lab works
Hockey Bets Live Inside One Goal
Sportsbooks price every game with a trading desk behind them. Most bettors price it with a season record and a feeling. In hockey, knowing which team is better only gets you so far, because almost every game lands inside one goal. The money is in the details the season record hides: who scores in the first ten minutes, who gives leads back in the third, who is starting the backup tonight, and where the closing line keeps getting a club wrong. NHL Lab tracks those details for all 32 teams and rebuilds them after every final, so what is on the page is who a team is this week.
Reading the team tiles
Each team tile shows its goal margin added up over its last ten games. A green line means the team has outscored its opponents over that stretch, and a red line means it has been outscored. Find the clubs climbing on green, open their page, and check whether the market has caught up.
01
How to use it
Pick a team and read down. The header puts the season record next to the window you choose, with the market strip under it. The Read answers five questions in one word each, with the record behind every word. Then the game log, the betting record and the totals ladders, the prop feed, the skater or goalie heatmap, the stats table, who drives the play at 5-on-5, and the goalie cards. Last 5 catches a run as it starts; Last 15 filters the noise. When the two disagree, that is usually the bet.
02
Where the numbers come from
Every number is built from official NHL box scores, play-by-play and shift charts, nothing scraped from a stats site. Expected goals come from a shot model built on distance, angle, shot type, rebounds, rush chances and manpower. Puck line and total records are graded at the closing line, the price a real bet settles at. Empty-net goals and shootouts are flagged wherever they decide a cover or a total without saying anything about the game. Referee crews come from the official game sheet.

Research here, picks for members
This side of the site is research, organized so the read takes minutes instead of hours and the decision stays yours. The model line, the edge and the nightly card live in the members area. Picks go up before puck drop and get graded in public afterwards, wins and losses alike.
Common questions
What is NHL Lab?
NHL Lab is free hockey betting research for all 32 NHL teams. It shows how every team scores by period, its puck line and over/under records graded at the closing line, goalie form, which players drive its results, and which skaters keep clearing their prop lines.
How are the puck line and total records graded?
Every record is graded against the closing line, the price a bet settles at. Empty-net goals are flagged in the game log, because they can decide a cover or a total late in a game.
What does process vs results mean?
It compares a team’s share of the scoring chances with its share of the goals. A team scoring more than its chances deserve usually cools off, and a team scoring less usually improves. Betting markets are often slow to catch that gap.
Why do last season’s numbers show up early in the year?
A handful of games is too small a sample to trust. Early in the season NHL Lab fills in with last season’s numbers, and the current season takes over completely as games are played.
Where are the model picks?
NHL Lab is the research side. Model picks live in the members area, posted before puck drop and graded in public afterwards, wins and losses alike.
THE READ
The five questions to answer before a hockey bet, each with one verdict and the graded record behind it: the moneyline, the puck line, the total, the first period, and whether the results are real. Pass means the sample has not earned a lean.
GAME LOG
Every game in the window, newest first, with the closing puck line and total beside the result. Goals are split by period, and overtime, shootouts and empty-net goals are flagged because they decide so many puck lines and totals. Chances swaps the periods for 5-on-5 expected goals and high-danger chances.
BETTING RECORD
Moneyline, puck line and over-under records against the closing line, by venue and recent window. The favorite and underdog columns show which side of the price has paid. Compare the home and road rows with the season row before trusting either.
TOTALS LADDERS
How often the team total, game total and first-period total clear each common line. The anchor is the team-total line this club splits about half the time; the scoring shape says whether its average is honest or lifted by a few big nights.
SKATER PROPS
Each card shows the prop line a player clears most often this season and how reliably it cashes, with his last eight games as dots. Select a card for every line he has five games on, a game-by-game chart and the log behind it.
SKATER HEATMAP
One row per player and one column per game, oldest on the left. Switch the metric to see shots, points, expected goals, chance share or ice time. The last column ranks each player’s window total within the roster.
SKATER STATS
Window totals for every player, each column ranked within the roster. Expected goals and chance share come from the shift data, so a skater with four goals on 1.5 expected stands out for the right reason.
WHO DRIVES IT
Who drives play at 5-on-5, graded against every forward or defenseman in the league. Offense covers the chances he creates and the chances his line creates with him on the ice; defense covers what the opponent gets while he is out there. Select a row for the read behind the grade.
THE GOALIES
The expected starter and the backup side by side. The starting goalie moves a total more than anything else on the board, so check this first.
